Dear Conference 2006 Participant,

I regret to inform you that, secondary to a compilation of unseen events, our exciting conference planned for April 22 has been cancelled.  For those of you, both patient & provider, who have already registered, rest assured that your registration funds will, of course, be returned in full.

I have worked hard to deliver this 3rd superb conference (both faculty & exhibitor) to you.  I fully regret these unanticipated changes which have, indeed, been out of FTIP’s control.

As for FTIP, our commitment to teaching, training, and serving our community has not waned.   Hence, you may look forward to my upcoming and soon to be developed bi-monthly web column.  Should you desire to be on its distribution list, then, by all means send an e-mail request.

As many of you already know, we consider ALZA Corporation to be the most terrific Conference co-host that any  nonprofit could dream for.  Their commitment to the community has been nothing short  of stellar.  Allow me to express our gratitude to they and others....

1)  TO:   ALZA for their leadership in Co-sponsoring our three conferences.

2)  TO:   ALZA¹s Corporate Event Staff for all their support and work to

date.

3)  TO:   Our Conference faculty who offered themselves as Servants of those

who suffer.

4)  TO:   To the Palo Alto Medical Foundation for modeling the importance of

“Access to Care”  as revealed in their Scholarship Fund Grant.

For myself and the Board of Directors of For Those In Pain, Inc., I thank you, the public, for your trust and patience with this turn of events.  I will keep you posted.

With High Regard,

Béto Tellería, M.A.

As Executive Director of For Those In Pain, Inc., I have the outstanding good pleasure to design and present to you, our 3rd Pain Management Conference & Exhibitor Faire for those adults who suffer from pain, their providers, their friends and family members, and their providers.

Our First Conference was in 2001.  Our Adult Conference & Exhibitor Faires have the basic title of “ Getting a Handle on Pain ”.  This is which is, in turn, connected to the particular theme for the given year.

This, here it goes:

2001

“ Getting a Handle on Pain I “

inspiration – empowerment

2003

“ Getting a Handle on Pain II “

pain is a social  affair

2005

“ Getting a Handle on Pain III “

radical change:

the frontier of self-management

This year’s theme is an exciting one because of the bold claim that it places before the community.  In February 2003, I was addressing a group of Physicians from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.  I had the opportunity to present the Mission of For Those In Pain, Inc.  Attempting to tease out the difference between Acute & Chronic pain, I delivered the following statement

As soon as I said it, I knew that I had finally come up with the definitive statement I had been looking for.

“the two most powerful treatment modalities in the management of chronic pain are, regrettably, the two most overlooked….They are low-tech, require no insurance coverage, and are fully portable.  These two modalities, or tools, if you will, are the patient’s own heart and mind.  The apprenticeship of the heart and mind shall be viewed as the essence of self-management.”
